Terms of service

Please read these terms before using the Site. They include an important disclaimer about the limits of financial calculations.

1. Acceptance of these terms

By accessing or using ratesandamort.com (the "Site"), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

2. Educational information only, not financial advice

The calculators, articles, guides and other content on the Site are provided for general educational and informational purposes only. Nothing on the Site is financial, investment, legal, tax, credit or accounting advice, or a recommendation to take or avoid any action. RatesAndAmort is not a lender, broker, credit counselor, financial adviser or tax preparer, and using the Site does not create any advisory or fiduciary relationship.

Before making a financial decision, consult a qualified professional and confirm all figures with your lender, card issuer or loan servicer.

3. Calculation disclaimer

You understand and agree that:

  • Calculator results are estimates based solely on the information you enter and on simplifying assumptions stated on each page.
  • Results generally assume fixed interest rates, monthly compounding, payments made on time at the end of each period, and no fees, new charges, promotional rates or rate changes. Your actual terms may differ.
  • Lenders and card issuers may calculate interest daily, apply payments differently, round differently or charge fees that change the true cost, payoff date and payment amounts.
  • Results are not offers of credit, payoff quotes, loan approvals or guarantees of any rate, term or savings.
  • Rates, statistics and rules cited in articles were accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the date shown, may have changed, and may not apply to your situation.

You are solely responsible for verifying any result before relying on it and for any decision you make.

4. Intellectual property

The Site and its contents, including text, calculators, software code, design, logos, graphics and the RatesAndAmort name, are owned by RatesAndAmort or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. You may use the Site for your personal, non-commercial purposes, print or save calculator results and schedules for your own use, and share links to pages.

Without our written permission, you may not copy, republish, sell, frame or create derivative works from substantial portions of the Site, or present its content or calculators as your own. Brief quotations with a link to the source page are welcome.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Site for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these terms.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Site, its security or its servers, or attempt to gain unauthorized access.
  • Use automated means to scrape or copy content at a volume that burdens the Site, except for search engine indexing in line with our robots.txt.
  • Click on or generate impressions of advertisements artificially, or encourage others to do so.

6. Third-party content, links and advertising

The Site may contain links to third-party websites and may display advertising. We do not control and are not responsible for third-party sites, products, services or advertisements. Any dealings you have with advertisers or linked sites are between you and them.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, OR THAT RESULTS WILL BE ACCURATE FOR YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES.

8. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, RATESANDAMORT AND ITS OWNERS, EDITORS AND CONTRIBUTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, SAVINGS, DATA OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR RELIANCE ON THE SITE OR ANY CALCULATION, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SITE WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS (US$100). SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THESE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless RatesAndAmort and its owners from any claims, losses or expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your misuse of the Site or violation of these terms.

10. Changes to the Site and these terms

We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Site at any time. We may also update these terms; the "last updated" date shows the latest version. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the updated terms.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the mandatory consumer protection laws of your place of residence provide otherwise.

12. General

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Site.
